The American farmer Carl Barnes was able to obtain this species. His ancestors were native Indians engaged in the cultivation of corn. They grew many different varieties, including corn of unusual color. The farmer used their knowledge to breed his unique variety and by crossing obtained a new, even more diverse species, which he called the «Glass Pearl».
